APRIL FOOL! Don’t panic. Digipen is still ranked top 3 game program course in the world by Princeton review.

There used to be a time where April fool pranks were committed by physical act of mischief. Now in this modern age, our pranks have turned digital. Gone were the days of powder pouring, water splashing practical joke but instead, massive coordinated pranks created by major news agency and corporate pop-up every single year on this faithful 1st of April. While some might find the prank funny, other could find it down right offensive. Some might finds it’s misleading and leads to panic or other social unrest, there are others who embrace it and even use it as a marketing tool.

Currently, most of the biggest April fool jokes are committed online. There was a hoaxed announcement about Google’s new mapping service called Verticals, where multiple users are able to capture images of their location in open space in real time as long as a Google Bird, basically a bird fitted with a camera that’s linked to Google’s central server, is flying around the area. While the presentation of the article was clearly friction, some joke actually pull the audience leg slightly too far.

While many corporations’ runs their own April fool joke, but the biggest hoax that any reputable news establishment ever pulled was the documentary, Swiss Spaghetti Harvest, by BBC in 1957. Broadcast on national television, it managed to convince a massive amount of viewer that spaghetti was grown from tress instead of wheat flour and water. Hundreds of viewers phoned the station to inquire about the spaghetti tree, with some even asking how to grow their own.

Some jokes which are intended to be frictional actually turned into successful products because of high interest and demand generated during the hoax. A great example will be a joke by ThinkGeek where they announce an 8 Bit Tie. Designed to resemble old computer graphic art back in the 1990s, many were fascinated with the product. Popular demand and pressure after the hoax actually lead ThinkGeek to the actual development and eventual release of the 8 bit tie. The finished ties were a sellout item for a couple of production runs.

Those successful jokes would not be possible without rapid distribution abilities. In such, technology helps spread the hoax and involving as much people as possible. This played a key role in making April fool’s Day a fun and entertaining event held once a year. One cannot help but wonder what will this year bring to us. Resonance Cascade

Half Life, a game virtually all self-respecting gamer would have played before. It won more than 55 Game of the year awards and spawned much other great mod game for example, Counter-Strike and Team Fortress. The game plot revolves around the player, the game’s protagonist and his journey of saving the Earth from the Resonance Cascade, a fictitious phenomenon that rips apart dimensional seams, which is a sabotage or accident caused by unknown agents.

The player plays as a Gordon Freeman, a MIT graduate theoretical physicist. He accidentally caused a space time portal to be open while performing routine experiment and aliens from another world start swarming Earth. The alien which is generally hostile by natural started attacking people in the facility.

The military and government tried to recover the accident by sending in Special Forces to kill any alien that were in the vicinity. While doing so a satellite was launch that resulted in a greater fall out of alien invasion. This time round, an invading army of alien started to attack Earth and Earth falls to the alien in a 7hour war. While the story is still on going, the current situation is very bleak for Earth and the human race as they get enslaved and face near extinction.

There are currently many ongoing experiments currently being carried by scientist all around the world. One for example will be the Large Hadron Collider which is currently searching for the Higgs Boson, God particle. Many say there may be a chance that black hole may be created by the LHC during its search for the Higgs as it is essentially recreating the moments just right after the universe is born.
Other will be when a major science project goes downhill, governmental intervention and information blackout may cause greater harm than good. Look at the Chernobyl disaster; it is a prime example of government control went wrong. Massive amount people suffered from radiation poisoning and many died from cancer.

While advancement in technology allows us to live a greater and more abundant life, are we able to cope with the ill effect of the disaster that may be caused when those technology fails? Are we prepared for the worst case scenario and are we even willing to take that risk?

Should GM food be banned?

About a billion people go hungry every single day. However, 50% of food produced in America goes into waste. That amount of food could have fed all the 1 billion hungry people around the world. This is not taking account into the food output in other net food producing country.

Genetically Modified food or GM Food, have be said to solve the world problem in food shortage. It is said to allow country who have little food to grow more food and be self-sustaining. Sadly, the problem is not with having enough food but weather food is distributed to places that need it the most. The lack of food in those area are actually cause by poverty. The real reason those people are hungry is that they cannot afford to buy or trade for food. The producer of food is not willing to sell food or produce food below the cost price of growing them. GM food though have the ability to gain higher yield and survive pest infestation or even drought are not financially variable to the poor farmer to even being with. GM food has a much higher startup cost as compared to normal food. This in turn actually cancel off the financial benefit GM food provides to the poor farmer. Unless GM seed are provided at a heavily discounted rate such that it is substantial financial gain to the farmer, the environmental risk associated with GM plantation will be difficult to shallow. The marketing of GM seeds for poor farmer is economically invariable.

Environmental risk is a major argument between natural conservative and GM lobbyist. The effects of GM plantation having on the native wild life, flora and fauna are still highly debated. The prime example used by both party would be the Monarch Butterfly. While it is proven that the Bt-gene in genetically modified corn pollen causes death in the butterfly by researches done by natural conservative supporter, counter research shown that in real life situation, Monarch Butterfly are clever enough to avoid the Bt-laced pollen. In fact, Monarch Butterfly have a higher percentage of population as compared to area where none such Bt-gene enable food are planted. Biologist have argued that while GM food upset the local eco system, natural always have a way to balances itself, either in the form of natural selection or adaptation. They added that GM crop actually require less herbicide and pesticide to maintain, this have greater and far more reaching immediate effects on the environment as the plantation industry is huge.

Many had brought about concern about GM food to human health. If the pollen of a GM food can kill such an innocently beautiful butterfly, what effect does it have on humans? Thankfully, a study in 2008 by the Royal Society of Medicine noted that while GM food have been eaten by millions of people worldwide for over 15 years, there is no report of ill side effects. However, there are immediate negative effects on a small percentage of people who consume GM food, and virtually all on in the form of allergy. Allergy comes because of human reaction to certain protein. When food is genetically modified, gene from other organism maybe be added and this gene essentially bring the protein over to the food. Allergy reaction can be highly dangerous from death to minor reaction like sneezing. Sadly, people who have strong allergy always have to carry their antidote wherever they go to cure any sudden allergic reaction. While it is in despicable to ask allergic sufferer to use their antidote every time they consume their food, clear and strong warning can be used on food label to inform them of their choices. While in theory, this seems like a very easy way to implement, simple stamping of label to identify GM food, in practice, this will be hard to achieve as food that are non GM maybe cross contaminated by GM food anywhere during their lifetime from planting to harvesting and finally the consumer mouth. Unless the issue of allergy is totally irradiated, GM food does prove to be risky and deadly to a small percentage of consumers.

Progress in GM food now allows maker to remove those protein that cause allergy as well as add them. It has far reaching effects. Now we have the ability to add useful nutrients and remove harmful toxic from the food. Food with negative elements can be removed and food can have positive properties added into them. For example, Golden rice have unusually high content of Vitamin A and this can potentially alleviate malnutrition in impoverish people. However, general fear of GM food by politician puts them out of reach for people who are willing to accept it.

The debate for GM food will go on and on. The religious will claim GM food producer are playing God by modifying the basic building block of life, gene, but that practice had been already used by cross breeding. Genetically modifying a food offers a direct way for producer to get an end result and cross breeding is just a crude way of getting there. We can see and learn that there are many advantage and disadvantage in GM food. From economic variability to environment protection, human health either beneficial or harmful to even playing God, this is totally not acceptable reasons to either accept or ban GM food.

While there are many claims that go for or against GM food, the outright ban on GM food is way too extreme. This limits the progress of science and instantly close door on virtually limitless possibility. We will effectively be push back into the renaissance era where claims of earth being round is out rightly banned and punished instead of given more thought. GM food has its risk but correct regulation instead of outright rejection can and will bring more benefits. It is claimed that everything will have its own revolution and food, the most basic human need is having a revolution this very moment. Should we accept or ban it? Let those who are directly affect by it choose, the consumer. Give them a choice to either pickup that GM food or totally ignore it.

Artificial Intelligent had taken over the World.

There are no war between the humans and machine. We are neither slave nor prisoner of the machine but thinking machine had taken over almost every single aspect of our life. They exist in the physical from like the autonomous vacuum cleaner, Roomba, to virtual variant like a website, Wolfram Alpha, which can solve and provide solution to many mathematical math problems a student will face.

AI in the 1950s was about the machine being able to replicate human mental intelligence. Many believe that the machine will very soon out smart human with their logic-based reasoning. This had proven to be extremely unachievable as our knowledge of the brain and how it work is so limited, programmer have a very hard time recreating a digital brain. This field of brain uploading, the ability for human to obtain singularity still has a very long way to go.

As time pass into the 1980s, researcher started to implement machine that catered for a single task. They started to create machine that is intelligent only in its own field of specialty. Take the widely used Automatic Breaking System (ABS) that is so common in vehicle today. The driver applies the break but the ABS process and applies the correct amount of break to prevent wheel lock and many other safety features that a human driver would not be able to duplicate from just pressing the break paddle.

We are generally not afraid of the machine artificial intelligent. It’s only when it appears to be smarter than us or perform better than us human do we start to fear and repel them. There was a project where an AI was made for Pathologist to aid in their studies. The AI performed very well and virtually always right in its analyzing and suggestion. However, the Pathologist only begin to trust and us the result when the programmer added a delay with flashing light, as though the AI was thinking and computing to puff out the correct answer. The machine problem was that it provided the answer too quickly. When it was reviewed that the AI can generate the result in second and the delay was just to give a feel of working, the Pathologist rejected the system saying it was not accurate.

Machine and its artificial intelligent has now mostly perpetrated into every comprehensible object in our daily life. From communication to transport to even our financial infrastructure, machine aided with AI is prevalent. Will it be possible for us to root out machine or AI out now? Will it be as simple as switching off a switch? Or has it come to a stage where Human are dependent on it? Are we now slave to Human’s child, the machine?

Tagging, poking, walling. There was never more social involvement in such a massive scale since the boom in social networking. Facebook single handedly changed the way we interact with one another. Prior to Facebook, there were many other social networking sites for example, Friendster and MySpace. Those did not manage to gain the critical mass favor but were leaders in their own right. Friendster is practically very popular in East Asia and MySpace is very popular in blogging teens.

Avid user of Facebook would have sworn by how their live had transformed since they were introduced to Facebook. Before Facebook, many would not be able to get directly involve with so many social activities. Event planning has never been made easier. Setting a location time and date and waiting friend to respond. There is even the ability for user to comment on the upcoming event in treads and when the event is over, the tread is still open for post event debrief.

In social aspect, Facebook allow their user to form Groups and Network. This enables the easy creation and maintenance of communities. One can easily linkup with the community in their school or workplace by using the Network function. Once the user join, they can actively seek out others in the same network and interact with said user. What happen when the user have a special interest? They can use the Group function and join with many other who have the same interest. The main advantage is that for many special groups, the local community may not have a mass of people to generate content and activity but with the Internet, many from around the world who may share a similar rare interest can gather together and provide the critical mass needed to sustain social activity.

Other socially encouraging feature like tagging your friends in your photos and the open documentation of the user thought encourages interaction. This generates social awareness for people not involved in the actual event where the photo is taken and provided new feedback by the open documentation of users thought which they can translate into community involvement.

While one may notice that in order for to gain any social interaction in Facebook, users have to be connected as friends. There are many other social networking platforms that do not require the users to be related in any way. This is the same for community, one may not directly be related to another person but they are linked by the events that happen in their circle. Platform like Twitter is the online solution to such an event. It allows users to be involved in activity without be related.

In fact, this platform was put to great use recently in some Middle East countries, Iran and Egypt, where it managed to unite the community in a single cause. In the case for Egypt, it even managed to successfully cause in a regime change.

While the past have the Interest used mainly as an information sharing medium, the maturity of the Internet has actually bought forth new social play field. We must understand that human civilization is built upon the ability to document information and successfully share it. The community is just an integral working part of our civilization. As the Internet matures, it provides more dimension for the community to grow. Human civilization can only improve from the usages of the Internet as its basic building blocks are information documentation and sharing.

Do what you want cause a Pirate is free, you are a Pirate! We are all guilty of piracy. From the death penalty during the British colonial time to getting ignored by police, in some countries, piracy law has largely evolved thanks to modern technology.
During the peak of the East Indian Company, Pirates had to brave stormy seas and hijack ships for their precious cargo. They risk their life in a dangerous and tedious process just for that bolt of silks, barrel of wine or even boxes of spices. Modern Pirate just has to click and download.
The penalty of piracy has been formulated in the past to prevent the loss of goods and life. The law prevents piracy with penalty of death and amputation to protect the merchant life as they pursue their trade. As piracy evolve to modern standard, its main aim is to protect the monetary value of their goods being plundered.
While we may not be stealing precious cargo that cost tons of money, the material that we rip of the Internet do cost money as well. No argument can save us from the crime of piracy. We may argue the item is too costly for us to purchase and thus we pirate it, we still did not answer the crime of stealing what does not belong to you. If you can’t afford a car, do you steal one?
Ironically, piracy had also been credited to the exponential growth of many industries. The entertainment industries for example credited its early grow to video game piracy. Many would not have tasted computer games, home movie and pop music if not for the cheap pirated stores that once littered the street.
The question will be how piracy will be embraced. Vast majority of the public wants piracy to be decriminalized (flaw of democracy) as we are all guilty of it but anyone in the business of intellectual property wants piracy law to be enforced. What is your take on this?

The Twitter Revolution.

In recent years, political playing field in regard to an entire nation had been shaken because of the Internet. The protests following the 2009 Iranian presidential election had major reliance on twitter and other social-networking sites in order for the protesters to communicate with each other. The ongoing Egypt protest at Tahrir Square exploded when the Egyptian government shut down the Internet.
This 2 country had a very similar problem that sparked the protest. Its citizen revolted under supposedly political oppression or lack of political freedom. Simple words, they want freedom from tyrant ruler. After years of oppression and maybe even foreign involvement in destabilization, the tipping point that caused the turmoil is of great difference.
Iran’s protest started off because of allegation of foul play in the election. People tweet and blog about how things were unfair and protester started to rally and chaos started. However, heavy governmental effort helps to keep the seemingly uncontrollable protester from reaching critical and prevented the protester aim of overthrowing the government.
Egypt having learned from Iran, on the onset of the protest, started to shut down Internet and other communication services in an effort to quench the protester and prevent coordination. This however back fired and the protest went beyond the governmental control. Talk of reform in the country governing body are planned and some senior official stepping down.
Why did 2 seemingly similar problems have such a drastically different result? The main different we observed here is the way the government reacted to the protester. Iran only shut down services critical to the coordination of the protest while Egypt had the Internet shutdown wholesale.
The take away point in this 2 conflict in simple word would be rather amusing.
You can take away my freedom but not Internet.
In other words, give potential protester Internet and they will be busy tweeting and blogging about the protest. Take their Internet and you will be busy tweeting and blogging about their protest.
In the modern world, we all know how much we cannot live with being connected to the gird. Have you ever wonder how would you survive without Facebook, twitter, MSN and all the other modern application? Would you fight to stay connected?

Gone were the days where you will wait for that prime evening time slot to catch your favorite series. You simply catch it on demand at any time you deem fit. Likewise for music, hardly anyone still listen to the radio. You either have your own playlist on your IPod that suit your music taste or listen to Podcast. Even non entertainment products like university lecture are on demand. There are colleges where student get to choose between watching recorded videos of lecture instead of being the school at a given time on a given day to attend the lesson.

There is a changing trend in which how entertainment, information and experiences are distributed. All of such service distribution started in a static form. They are feed on a channel thought a medium to the user in a linear fashion. The user does not get to choose the product but they do have choice over the medium and channel. In such, for example, a user seeking music entertainment has to choose between a Television or a Radio as a medium and the countless channels it provide. If none are playing anything of interest to the user, that is pretty much tough luck for him.

Distributor tried to solve this problem with many ways. In the case with television, user can always make a trip down to the video store to purchase what they want to watch. The purchase model even evolved to rental service to entice more people who find purchasing too expensive. Lately there is the ability to get what user want at the moment they want it and thus coining the term On Demand.

Do note that the progression in which the distribution model changes is directly related to how technology develops. Purchasing or renting a video is only made possible by the introduction of cheap and standardized cassette/disk player. This distribution was not available during the onset of television as the cost of storage and playback is beyond the reach of normal consumer. Likewise for the boom for On Demand services only started in the modern era as data transmission prior to the digital age were slow and expensive. Not to mention extremely costly backup support to provide customized services to individual user.

Looking at how the tread is going, we know that On Demand service will be the prevailing format of distribution. Why is it that some services have to adopt this method to survive while other does not? This basically boils down to basic Needs and Wants. There is more competition in the Want sector than there is in a Need. For the Want sector, they have to constantly innovate in order to attract and maintain their customer pool to prevent them from spending on other Wants. A Need however, the customer will always have to return and thus, lowering the requirement for innovation.

While observing current trend, one does not fail to notice how a successful On Demand service changes the playing field in that area. It has the ability to unset the playing field and throws all competitors service that are not using the medium to the ground. YouTube proved the point. While it allow user to share video, it basically provide an On Demand service to anyone who has a video. There are now countless Video Station and uses YouTube as a medium of distribution.

Not all service that adopts On Demand necessary succeeds. We do note that On Demand services is used primarily for Wants and those under Needs does not really need to innovate but however, on a closer look, those Wants that are treading the line of turning into a Need are the most viable for conversion. We shall refer back to YouTube for example; video entertainment has become so part and parcel of our life that without it, we can be considered to be socially disconnected. Video is basically transforming into a need in the modern age. Coupled with the combination of On Demand service, YouTube managed to propel itself as the forerunner in Video distribution.

As one marvel at On Demand services, it is the advances of the Internet that allows it to be possible. From the humble beginning of dial up to current Fiber to the Home, High Speed Internet opens the door to many countless possibility.

WikiLeaks totally changed the playing field for journalism as the Time Magazine quotes, WikiLeaks could become as important a journalistic tool as the Freedom of Information Act.

While the concept of spreading classified document have been around since there was mass media. WikiLeaks provided a platform for information to be published and virtually impossible to remove. There used to be a time where a central government can limit the distribution of restricted article and prevent it introduction into the general public.

Media censorship existed can be traced back to the foundation of human civilization. One of the earliest forms of censorship is the Qin Dynasty burning of book and burial of scholars. Censorship is pervasive in all social order. It is one of the Governments greatest tools of social engineering by allow the removal and suppression of material that is deem to be a threat to society, or the established order either politically or morally.

What makes WikiLeaks so scary is how technology enables the unrestricted publication of classified media with almost no possibility to take it offline. Coupled with the Barbra Streisand’s effect and the massive backend support of mirrors and server, WikiLeaks managed to survive multiple governmental attack and free roaming hacker.
What is commendable is WikiLeaks sophisticated design. Firstly it is hosted in Sweden as the Swedish constitution protection of media publication makes it very difficult to take WikiLeaks offline. Secondly the massive amount of mirror and rerouting of internet traffic provided a cloud network that ensures that no one server is responsible for the hosting of WikiLeaks.

While the majority of the media reaction to the current WikiLeaks outbreak is about how the releases of classified diplomatic cable damage relationship with entangled countries and national security related issue, the mass majority had overlook how technology can upset the established order of society – Censorship.

School is starting, again.

Boom! 3 weeks just flew pass me, just like that. This is supposed to be the longest holiday I will be having this academic year. It actually felt like years to me. Many event and happening things too place. Not to mention, this is my first real break since I enlisted and turned reservist and went straight into college. I watched countless drama series and movies, I went out to catch up with countless friends that I do not have the opportunity to do so for the past 2 and a half years.
Spring start on Monday and honestly, I can’t wait for my first lesson. It’s pretty surprising as I am not the academic type of person. Why would I be interested in school? Pondering, I realize maybe it’s because I’m not studying there. I’m living my dream. When one is living their dream, nothing else matters.
There were some brick walls that last semester in regards to me not performing up to my expectation but hey, brick walls are there for a reason. The majority will just turn their back on a brick wall, but the determined will scale it, climb over it, and conquer it. Come on, let’s be a history maker, again.

A big fat ‘F’ greets you when you read your results slip. You wonder why. You were active in class, never slept during lectures and never tardy for class or homework submission. You make a phone call to an acquaintance, the guy who was always seen dozing off, hoping to find comfort in a greater failure. Something seems amiss, he sounds totally exuberant. You pop the question and never felt worse in your life. Life's unfair, you wonder. Clearly, there must be a reason for the ‘A’ awarded to him. Being seen or heard does not mean you participated in the class. A positive image is critical in getting a positive grade in class participation.

Let us analyse what happened during the grading of your class participation and how it got so horribly wrong. No one would ever views themselves as at fault, but more often, this is the case. There are things that you do that make you stand out in the crowd more than others and these things actually do leave an impression on the teacher. Some of which could have a lasting negative impression.

Have humility - there many things that you won’t know. Admit it. This is the reason why you are even attending school. It is fairly natural for a teacher to assume that the students have no clue about the subject that is being taught, and the very reason why they attend class. Never think you are smarter than the teacher - never. Don’t ask questions to test the lecturer or for the sake of looking smart. Asking questions doesn’t prove you are paying attention nor is it avenue for seeking attention. If you are sitting in class and the teacher is talking and think you have a question to ask, make sure that the answer you seek is really critical to better grasp the subject. Almost everyone would be turned off by a know-it-all trying to seek attention. The lecturer would have probably witnessed such behavior countless times. Likewise, lecturers tend to not take very well to such standoffish attitude and would reflect their opinions accordingly to your participation grade at the end of the day.

Don't be weird. You may wonder why the guy who sleeps in class gets higher participation points than you; He opts to not disturb anybody while you, in your shades and weird jacket, strut around acting as if you're a movie star. Stop dressing like one. Also, stop wearing the same set of clothing to school as well. Practice rotation. Not to forget, bathe! You live in a tropical country; you are bound to sweat a lot. The odour of decomposing feces can be a source of distraction to the class even though your presence can be totally felt by anyone in a hundred meter radius from you. If you can’t afford to bathe in the morning before going to school because you are late or for whatever reason, use a deodorant.

Be the nice guy. Stop making people detest you. Worse still, don’t give the lecturer a reason to pick on you. They are the ones who award you your grade and you don’t want them to use your grade as a weapon to get you down. There might still be a chance that if you are nice, they could close an eye and award you a passing grade. Try holding the door for the lecturer, help with getting the class attendance. These small acts add up and help build a better impression of you. Stop laughing when the teacher is talking; stop walking in and out of class as and when you like; basically, stop all the nonsense that will put you in a negative light.

Shocked? I'm quite sure. Ultimately, stop being a loser and get real. Empty vessels make the most noise. Even the guy who perpetually sleeps in class can show moments of wisdom when he is awake and contributes meaningfully to the class. You may have been taught that catching the lecturer’s attention is as good as participating in class but it’s not; you need to be constructive in your involvement and the ‘A’ for participation will come naturally. Can’t be bothered or not convinced? This is how you score an ‘F’ grade for class participation.

6 years ago was the last English essay i wrote. Just yesterday, I broke the 6 year record and wrote my first essay assignment. Extensive editing was used =)

The Jungle Hat
Crack! I thought it was the sound of thunder until I felt a sudden sense of weightlessness. The log that I was standing on a thousand feet above sea level suddenly gave way while I was attempting to cross to the other side of the cliff. A mere split second that would have only taken a single blink of an eye seemed to stretch for the longest time.
Barely two weeks ago my buddy had been complaining about how unforgiving the terrain in Brunei would be. We heard stories about how gruesome a friend’s friend got injured while navigating through the jungle - wild stories about the vegetation and how some were as thin as a human hair, but as sharp as a razor; this was the mental conditioning that we put ourselves into getting prepared for the arduous journey.

I jolted back into reality as the sudden jerk of the rope saved me from impending doom. There I was, dangling mid air with just a nylon rope literally putting me on the thin line between life and death. A vision of my life went by in a flash – past, present and future. The poignancy of the moment was admittedly rather epiphany.

In my stupor, the detail leader ordered the team back into formation. Precarious as my situation was, I was surprisingly calm - prior training taught me to resist moving while in danger. I quickly stabilized my rifle that was swaying on the other end of the sling, very much aware of the outcome of a taut rope swaying. I looked up and saw another squad mate struggling to hold on to the edge of the cliff. We were all linked in a daisy chain. The realization that we were all in the same boat was a rude shock to my earlier calmness.

Thankfully, being the rear end of the team, it also meant I was the last man to get to the other side. With the rest of the team serving as anchor, I tried to climb up the rope. The fact that my boots were covered with mud, in spite of some fancy leg maneuvers, the lack of friction was proving to be a challenge. I had to think of something quick. The rest of the team were gripping precariously on the edge of the cliff and heaven was not in the least bit helping as I felt the first drop of rain kiss my forehead as I arched my face skyward.

In the midst of panic, the voice of logic shouted from above – “Let’s just pull him up!” Before I realized what was actually happening, a wave of relief washed over me as the sensation of the upward tug commenced in a rhythmic motion. Soon after, my feet were back on solid ground. Though the team was visibly exhausted after that long haul, there was definitely a hint of accomplishment in their eyes and their inconspicuous smiles.

Barely catching my breath from the rescue attempt, reality started to set in. “We have to get moving!” yelled the detail leader. “We are supposed to rendezvous at the foot of the stream at Mt. Biang!” We mustered up what remaining strength and composure and with a sigh, continued our long march down the mountain range.

As we trudged along, I stole a quick glance; everyone looked exhausted. It’s been days since we had last tasted anything. Why are we in this? I could not help but wonder. Would I still be here had I been alone? The long march down enlightened me; it was the realization that it wasn't the sake of defending our homeland. It isn’t for the waiter who serves you coffee in the morning, neither is it for the white men that shows up during National Day - I looked around me, though weary, I knew I'd never walk alone.

After 3 months of training as a recruit and 9 long months as an officer cadet at OCS, i finally make it and commissioned on the 12 of Sept 2009! =)
I'm now currently holding the rank of a second lieutenant in the Singapore Armed Forces.

So for those who might want to see me in my graduation uniform with all the blingbling medals i earned here it is. And yes, thats the command sword which is now resting in my room.

A hard and interesting chapter finally closed and its stories i shall forever remember. Gonna embrace the new chapter as i start my command tour.

Sry for not updating my blog much. Been very busy. So busy i don even have time to sleep and enjoy fellowshipping with me bed.

So for the update, let me start by where i left off.

I POP from BMT! ok so now im really posted to OCS. Got what i wanted but now after being in it, i shall only comment its a very different thing.
Now im 4 months into my cadet training and have 5 more months to go. A senior cadet of OCS Hotel wing under the vocation of Infantry. I guess thats all i can say. Pretty much everything i want to say is classified so i cant really share them.

Ok for my gaming career new, I GOT INTO IGF FINALIST! Thats like the oscar of the gaming industry! Though i may not been the winner but being the top 5 of the world is seriously a big achievement. I rememeber back in my poly days where i would only dream of being in the league of those developer but now i got to be in their league. Showtime is seriously a black swan game for me.

To all my friends out there, ill promise to keep this blog alive when i have the time. Seriously ocs is hard. I get very little bookout timing and even when i bookout, i got to deal with tons of assignment. Just hope to survive the remaining 5 months and commission as an officer =) Headsup, ill be going to brunei next month. So if u wanna see me before i die, u got to book my timing fast! Its selling like hotcakes... =D

Ok, found the picture i took with the 40 000USD of which non i would recieve =(
The lab took everything, YES EVERYTHING, back. Only managed to take 1 photo with the prize money and get credits for it. Not too bad though.

Anyway, im less then 10 days to my POP! Very excited about it. Finally getting out of the miserable tekong island. Wonder where i would endup. OCS? haha i wish. But atleast 3mth of my ns life is over. 21 more months to go =(

Science and God

'Let me explain the problem science has with Jesus Christ.' The atheist
professor of philosophy pauses before his class and then asks one of his
new students to stand.

'You're a Christian, aren't you, son?'

'Yes sir,' the student says.

'So you believe in God?'

'Absolutely.'

'Is God good?'

'Sure! God's good.'

'Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?'

'Yes.'

'Are you good or evil?'

'The Bible says I'm evil.'

The professor grins knowingly. 'Aha! The Bible!' He considers for a
moment.

'Here's one for you. Let's say there's a sick person over here and you
can cure him. You can do it. Would you help him? Would you try?'

'Yes sir, I would.'

'So you're good...!'

'I wouldn't say that.'

'But why not say that? You'd help a sick and maimed person if
you could. Most of us would if we could. But God doesn't.'

The student does not answer, so the professor continues. 'He
doesn't, does he? My brother was a Christian who died of cancer, even
though he prayed to Jesus to heal him How is this Jesus good? Hmmm? Can
you answer that one?'

The student remains silent.

'No, you can't, can you?' the professor says. He takes a sip of
water from a glass on his desk to give the student time to relax.

'Let's start again, young fella Is God good?'

'Er...yes,' the student says.

'Is Satan good?'

The student doesn't hesitate on this one. 'No.'

'Then where does Satan come from?'

The student : 'From...God...'

'That's right. God made Satan, didn't he? Tell me, son. Is there
evil in this world?'

'Yes, sir.'

'Evil's everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything,
correct?'

'Yes.'

'So who created evil?' The professor continued, 'If God created
everything, then God created evil, since evil exists, and according to
the principle that our works define who we are, then God is evil.'

Without allowing the student to answer, the professor continues:
'Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible
things, do they exist in this world?'

The student: 'Yes.'

'So who created them?'

The student does not answer again, so the professor repeats his
question. 'Who created them? There is still no answer. Suddenly the
lecturer breaks away to pace in front of the classroom. The class is
mesmerized.

'Tell me,' he continues onto another student. 'Do you believe in
Jesus Christ, son?'

The student's voice is confident: 'Yes, professor, I do.'

The old man stops pacing. 'Science says you have five senses you
use to identify and observe the world around you. Have you ever seen
Jesus?'

'No sir. I've never seen Him'

'Then tell us if you've ever heard your Jesus?'

'No, sir, I have not..'

'Have you ever actually felt your Jesus, tasted your Jesus or
smelt your Jesus? Have you ever had any sensory perception of Jesus
Christ, or God for that matter?'

'No, sir, I'm afraid I haven't.'

'Yet you still believe in him?'

'Yes.'

'According to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable
protocol, science says your God doesn't exist. What do you say to that,
son?'

'Nothing,' the student replies. 'I only have my faith.'

'Yes, faith,' the professor repeats. 'And that is the problem
science has with God. There is no evidence, only faith.'

The student stands quietly for a moment, before asking a
question of his own. 'Professor, is there such thing as heat?'

'Yes,' the professor replies. 'There's heat.'

'And is there such a thing as cold?'

'Yes, son, there's cold too.'

'No sir, there isn't.'

The professor turns to face the student, obviously interested.
The room suddenly becomes very quiet. The student begins to explain.

'You can have lots of heat, even more heat, super-heat,
mega-heat, unlimited heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat, but we
don't have anything called 'cold'. We can hit up to 458 degrees below
zero, which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is
no such thing as cold; otherwise we would be able to go colder than the
lowest -458 degrees. Every body or object is susceptible to study when
it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have
or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-458 F) is the total absence of heat.
You see, sir, cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of
heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat we can measure in thermal units
because heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the
absence of it.'

Silence across the room. A pen drops somewhere in the classroom,
sounding like a hammer.

'What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as
darkness?'

'Yes,' the professor replies without hesitation. 'What is night
if it isn't darkness?'

'You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the
absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright
light, flashing light, but if you have no light constantly you have
Nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? That's the meaning we use to
define the word. In reality, darkness isn't. If it were, you would be able
to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?'

The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him.
This will be a good semester. 'So what point are you making, young man?'

'Yes, professor. My point is, your philosophical premise is
flawed to start with, and so your conclusion must also be flawed.'

The professor's face cannot hide his surprise this time.
'Flawed? Can you explain how?'

'You are working on the premise of duality,' the student
explains. 'You argue that there is life and then there's death; a good
God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something
finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a
thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much
less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life
is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive
thing. Death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it.'

'Now tell me, professor. Do you teach your students that they
evolved from a monkey?'

'If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, young
man, yes, of course I do'

'Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?'

The professor begins to shake his head, still smiling, as he
realizes where the argument is going. A very good semester, indeed.

'Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work
and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you
not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you now not a scientist, but a
preacher?'

The class is in uproar. The student remains silent until the
Commotion has subsided.

'To continue the point you were making earlier to the other
student, let me give you an example of what I mean.'

The student looks around the room. 'Is there anyone in the class
who has ever seen the professor's brain?' The class breaks out into
laughter.

'Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor's brain,
felt the professor's brain, touched or smelled the professor's brain? No
one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of
empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no
brain, with all due respect, sir. So if science says you have no brain,
how can we trust your lectures, sir?'

Now the room is silent. The professor just stares at the
student, his face unreadable.

Finally, after what seems an eternity, the old man answers. 'I
guess you'll have to take them on faith.'

'Now, you accept that there is faith, and, in fact, faith exists
with life,' the student continues. 'Now, sir, is there such a thing as
evil?'

Now uncertain, the professor responds, 'Of course, there is. We
see it everyday. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man.
It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world.
These manifestations are nothing else but evil.'

To this the student replied, 'Evil does not exist sir, or at
least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God.
It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe
the absence of God.

God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when
man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold
that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there
is no light.'

Alright. Shit happens and office today is THE shit. Shall not mention anything about it else i break my non-disclosure agreement.

Anyway today i gave a talk at NUS about some parts of game development. Crowd of around 60 people. Pretty stressful but it turn out well. Cant believe i really did it.

Anyway team tall is going forward like mad! Projects running and all the stuff going, really exciting times.

Grado SR-80 or SR-125

Was planning to update my current pair of earbuds but a good friend told me about Grado and now i cant get my mind off it.
Did some research and i narrowed my choices to 2 of Grado Lab Prestige series headphone. Went down to give those earphone a test drive. The SR80 is really good. But the mid are slightly weak compared to its bass and high. The SR125 solved that problem and im pretty happy with it sound. However, the SR125 comes in a 1/4" jack while the SR80 uses a 1/8" jack, iPod standard.

The price different is quite big too. SR-80 cost 170 but the SR 125 cost almost 300 buck! However, im thinking of getting a more portable pair of earbud instead of headphone. Already own a senn 155 which still serve me very well.

Alright today my IQ just dipped. Correction, it suffered from a landslide.
Fang was talking about type polymorphism. Took me 2hours reading and researching but, i still don understand what the hell is it about?
To make matter worst, they claims that it was taught in year1! I feel so stupid now. I got a feeling i know what is it about and that i did polymorphism before, just that i don know i did it?

I just received my national service enlistment date, 15 September. Which mean i will have time to complete 1 of my biggest project to date. Working with people well above my league has been a very humbling experience.
I just read Chinny's blog about his reflection on the pass 3 year in DET. Events and choices just flooded back into my memories.
Graduating from my diploma after 3 fulfilling years. It's like roller coaster journey, been hell of a ride.
I still remember the days when i written down my 1 and only choice into the post secondary Joint Administration Exercise. Looking back, i think i was mad at that moment. Where can i go if i dint manage to get into the course? Why am i signing up for a unproven industry? Back then, it was just sheer passion. I just wanted to be part of this revolution. I knew nothing about what that was lay upfront.
School started and naturally, i was very excited about school work and my new found freedom. I completed my assignment i loved the moment i got hold of them, slept in class that i felt was boring. Life basically was rather easy for me.
Things wasn't that smooth sailing. School work caught up and i started to get sick of them. Other commitment took a large portion of my time. Studies got affected but thankfully, God is good. He placed good friends to help and guide me along the way. When i was lonely in school, he found me friends that i still held on dearly to now. When i was burnout, he bought me friends that encourage and tried to pull me out. When i was tailing behind, he send me friends that gave me boosts. And those wonderful friend till now still guide me along.
I was blessed with many opportunity as well, a overseas internship which i rejected. But that however landed me with a greater opportunity, an internship in EA. A premier game publisher/producer. In fact, my current job was a recommendation by a lecturer whom i held with great respect.
Personally, i think this 3 years had not prepared me for the the industry. Instead, what it has done was to ignite my passion, fire and interest. I am now certain about what I'll be pursuing.
Looking forward to my commencement on the 21th of may.

Alright, i thought the year just started and now we are already celebrating Christmas. Years ending and im graduating soon if all turns up well.
Christmas o Christmas, maybe i shall give an explanation of how what and how Christmas was created.

Firstly, Christmas is an annual holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. It however is not considered to be his actual date of birth. No one really knows when was he born.
Christmas Eve is the day before Christmas. Boxing day after 1 day after Christmas.

Many people ask why Christmas is called Christmas. The word Christmas originated as a contraction of "Christ's mass". It is derived from the Middle English Christemasse and Old English Cristes mæsse, a phrase first recorded in 1038, compounded from Old English derivatives of the Greek christos and the Latin missa.[1] In early Greek versions of the New Testament, the letter Χ (chi), is the first letter of Christ. Since the mid-16th century Χ, or the similar Roman letter X, was used as an abbreviation for Christ.[2] Hence, Xmas is often used as an abbreviation for Christmas.

Another funny question is Boxing day, many ask why Boxing day is called boxing. Do people go watch boxing matches in stadium or something? No. Boxing come from, To give a Christmas-box. Thus Boxing day. This in fact means that Christmas present were originally given out on Boxing day, not Christmas.

So what is the Christmas story?
Its the story in the Gospel about the birth of Christ. It was the day the Son of God was birth. The dawn of saved humanity simply put.

I just went for an interview this Tuesday at MDA, Media Development Authority. My ex-lecturer introduced me to a job there. Casual game developer. They promise to get back 2 me in 2 weeks time. Hopefully i get in.
The pays kinda sux thou. For the amount of work and brain juice needed, i think im underpaid. Which also mean i need to find out job to supplement my income.

School ending in less then 2 month time. So exciting. But i have tons of project to rush. I shall be the head and not the tail.

Alright! i went to MOS last satday and the reason being, its was my friend birthday. Its a pretty cool place. Its located in the heart of town, and the entire place is very well done. Smoke machines pump out sweet smelling smoke that fills not just the club house, but also the surrounding area as well.
Upon entering the Ministry of Sound, one would be greeted by the fierce looking bouncer who then proceed to conduct a security check of all bags. Afterward you would walk 2-3meter to ticketing booth. A very bright beam of white light with the MOS logo is casted from behind to the ticketing floor. It feels very surreal to me. An entire ceiling of fiber optical line are left hanging. The tip of each strand is glowing with primary colors.
Afterward, there this row of counter where you would purchase your entry ticket. A long wall of small LCD panels line the back of the booth. Running on the screens are hardcore motion graphic. Oh yes, Entry price? 28 dollar. Yes i know, its expensive. You get 2 drink coupon too. Proceed to put deposit your bag near the main arena. They will exchange it with a coupon again with a unique id.
I went straight to the main arena. Everywhere is foggy as usual. The most well nicely presented light room i ever been. At the dance floor, the light circle in random around the circular risen platform. Beams of flashing lights runs in beat to the music. The nicest effect would be the strobe lights. Its like a flash gun but its fires up at high frequency. Around 10Hz a sec. The resulting effect is that people movement seem to slow down. Very interesting. Have to be there yourself to understand why. There are floodlight as well in which they too are fired at climax.
Oh yes, the next i want to talk about would be the hog machine. Yes yes, the entire place is filled with hog but they still have this special device where a tornado could be blasted out. Only seen it twice that night. While activated, the entire dance floor felt chilling. They also have this hog blaster. Massive or suffocating amount of hog blasted right down from above. I was lucky, standing below at the epicenter when it activated. Instantly blinded by this thick vertical column of hog. The aftermath? Im soaking wet from the hogger.
I went to the youth arena but i found the taste there to be very kiddish. Youths grinding and all sorts of bull crap. The music seem to be playing off some Djs ipod. I went to the classics but the music there is OLD. Went to pure but its not my type. Went back to main arena again.
I had 3 drinks recommended by my friend. Taste pretty nice. 2 vodka and 1 whiskey. Not much comment about the drink. They seems pretty weak to me. Still very clearheaded.
In between, the group went to cheers to buy food. Clubbing is like going to gym. All the workouts. Talk alot of crap there. And that when i noticed my hearing is gone. Like 50%. Ok, no worry, it recovered 99% already. I guess 1% is lost forever. Im guessing the audio level is peaking at 120dB.

The trip was quite an eye opener for me. The inter design was awesome. The atmosphere was uber. The people inside are really expressing themselves. grooving to the music with loud action. Its unlike alot of events i been to where the crowd is just standing there clapping. Periods where hands are suppose to be high up, they down under. One just feel happy there just because even seem to be happy. And lastly, almost everyone there is FRIENDLY. Its not like what the media has been saying about, etc picking for a fight and staring an stuff. I bump into a few people, its was pitch dark, but even before i could apologize , they are already did so and smiled.
Quite an awesome place. Only if its much cheaper.

I brought CRYSIS: SPECIAL EDITION! The entire package was very well done, just that there no metalbook that they promise it will come with. Oh well. I seriously want that metalbook, a truly collector item.
Played 1/3 of the game. Its a born classic. I wish i have a high end computer to fully enjoy this game. Its an insult just to run it a laggy medium setting.

Crysis is like the only happy thing that happen to me the past few days. Kinda sad. Many screwup here and there that just spoil the joy of doing whatever thing im passionate about.

Happier side, i wrote my first shader program! Its like a dream! Stupid web self help always make things seem so hard. Now, i shall go finish my render engine. Must have the perseverance to complete it.

Crysis, 10/10. Such a wholesome and polished game that pushes the cutting edge of computing. Thou the technology for such effect had long be devised. It the experience of viewing it used practically in a product that makes me go gaga. The simple thought that such implementation was said to be impossible or far fetched just a couple of years back makes 1 wonder what does the future holds for this amazingly new budding industry.
Being a game programmer IN TRAINING, i was left dumb folded in my chair enjoying every single moment of my experience with the title. Trained to see detail in every aspect, i would say this game is flawless. Alright, there is bound to be glitches here and there, but the improvement over every other title in the universe shrouded my eye from such mistake. I have never seen anything so wonderfully made.
Its the first time i have the feeling that a product was well thought and planned even before it was formed. Its as if the entire game was transplanted from the creator imagination and set in this world.
Having said, i wonder what does the future holds for interactive entertainment. Would its reality grow to be more "real" then the world we live in? What kind of process would be needed for the new blood like me have to go through before we can reach the cutting edge level. I guess, no amount of training and learning would bring us to that level. Yes, those are needed in the process, but a common link in everything that that drive such a ground breaking development such as Half Life, World in Conflict and a handful of other classic is Passion. It is this Passion that would lead one to the peak of wholesomeness. A Passion that accept nothing less then the perfection of the bearer entire imagination. A Passion that drives on to perfection.

Alright. I had been whining about having not enough money and I still fall to the temptation of buying "Facing the Giants"
It was quite worth it anyway. Managed to see the deleted scene and the making of stuff for the movie. Learn many new things in a wide variety of area.

Sunday was cool. Played pool with my dad. Nearly trashed. Dad 4 : 1 me. Madness. Anyway my free time is now usually spend playing TF2 or trying to complete the season of American dad. Gonna start watching Futurama, the recommendation for it is through the roof. Not to mention it won Emmy award.

School? I suppose I'm quite positive about school now. Its not as scary as I expected it to be. Shall continue to work hard. Just the final semester. I beginning to feel that I am getting pretty irritating now a days.

OK great! I finished my hardware shader assignment after consulting the help of a few kind hearted friends who are just so good at their work. But then i can only blame myself, time invested studying equal to result harvested.

I manged to updated my portfolio blog with the shader assignment. It was a PAIN. The web was so slow and i have so many limitation on file size and even HTML codes. Never ever use freewebs. I am now thinking of getting my own domain name and a paid host. Ill do good with a high speed local host. Great for storing my stuff online as well.

Anyway, i finally finished Portal. It was a very awesome game. The concept of portals and having momentum carried forward was interesting. Thou it defies the second law of thermodynamic, it make a very challenging game play. Not to mention the dexterity needed to complete those task.
I tried to play HL2:EPI2 but I had audio problems in chapter 2 ending. Kinda effect the storyline. Shall stop playing until i managed to fix that bug. Right now, HL2:E2 is really a great game.
Almost forget to mention Team fortress 2. It still the same TF play style but now in Pixar animation style. Very fun and interesting. They managed to finally fix game play issue that plagued TFC. For your info, each character model in TF2 have to undergo 6 shader passes to achieve that Pixar look. Its madness. They managed to compress Pixar shading into real time renderable.

Alright, so i started school for 1 week now. It went amazingly wonderful. Its like always the final year where everyone so "flow" with one another. All the lecturer and other stuff like kinda have that bond. Just hope everything continue this well till i grad and the friendship and everything last forever. Haha.

Tomorrow morning I have service and its 2.30am now. Shall log off real soon. Happiness is a state of mind. I choose to be happy.

Eating Grass

Alright! I finally bought the Orange Box! I spend my entire wedday playing that it. Totally awesome. The style and story telling. Its super expensive thou, at 72buck. Im gonna eat grass for the next few weeks.

Anyway i saw "Facing the Giants" dvd at church and again im thinking of getting that dvd. Can bring around to show my friends. Its a show of hope and over coming life's giants. I personally was very touch and impacted by it. Gonna save for the dvd now.

School started alright. Got a shader assignment to complete. Shall do it tmr when i reach home. Must have discipline! Oh yar, my wiimote extension for my FYPJ project. Must complete it this week. Like seriously, im been dragging all my assignment. My bad.

The most interesting this week was tursday chillout at vivo with the gang. Kinda wasted time talking and shoping, not to mention expensive food, but its was the bonding that made it all worth while. Still smiling when im thinking back.

Alright, i shall eat some cracker, drink my milk and maybe call my friend for latenight chat (: Gabe is playing with his itouch, mel thinking about BEEFCAKE and jeremy going random again. Jon and Fang? Coder... =|

School Started

ALright, after two months of holidays, school has finally started again. Its been wierd now as its been like 8mth and 3week before i step into a classroom again. I wont be needing to go to any lectuer hall this term, which is great! That place is the lare of ZZZ monster. Going back to tutorial classes are fun. Crapping with classmate and stuff.

Course work are getting harder too. Its like pressure. People changes and stuff. I kinda expected that anyway.

Anyway, went out with some closer coursemate. Went to vivo for lunch. Damn expensive, all jeremy's fault! 10 bucks gone just like that. We went around vivo to chill as well. Bonding. Talking about that, i still don know much what in the world their talking about. Like randomness.

I wanted to buy Orange Box today but din have the time. Oh well. Maybe ill get it tomorrow. Its the next episode of the game i play for like all my gaming life? 72 bucks for it. It come with 3 others games thou. 1 I already owns, 1 i played but din own, and 2 episode of 2 different game and a totally new 1. Thats like 5 games bundle into 1. And if i get it fast, ill get a "limited" edition mousepad too. Tempting... I... WANT... IT...

Oh school started, and my portable harddisk is seriously running out of space. Thinking of investing in a 160gb 2.5" hdd at 139 dollar? Its less then 1dollar a GB. Pretty cheap small portable storage. Shall go check it out at SLS tmr too.

Bored but super duper happy

I guess i recovered from my uber sickness. Was virtually bedridden for the past 4 to 5 days! Had a bad case of stomach flu and all the other accompany illnesses.

Really thankful for my parents who took great care to nurse me when im sick. And not to mention my very faithful cell group leader who went all the way to my house to deliever some vitamin pills. Really gateful!

Besides that, there nothing really eventful for me, unable to attend service so i caught it online. Play many new games. Pre ordered some as well bought a few. OK! I know im been complaining im broke lately but those money are long set aside for the purchasing of ORGINAL games.

On a lighter note, the waiter job that Damian franatically wanted me to join him finally called after missing in action for a week. Had training today and it went very well. Simple and clear cut. Should start work soon. And the weekdays seems very relax.

It was raining the other day at night. Being a rain loving person, i stood by the window, enjoying the little splatter of dripping raindrops that get blown into my room. Light amount of rain rested on my face as well.

Just before it rained, i was praying on my bed. The tick and splatter sound distracted me. Soon i find myself standing by the window. I stretch out my hand and felt the dizzling rain. I got even more amazed when i recalled what the rain symbolise. The bible use refer the Holy Spirit as rain, water and oil.

Really enjoyed the moment when the breeze was all calming and smooth. It flow by my hand like silk. That mango tree that just next to me just sway along. It had that shine as if the garderner sprayed water over it. Sparkling at my left was this covered walkway in red tile. It was at night and the moon just shine amazingly bright despite the raining night. The road to my right was glowing even brighter with the coat of rain. I can see each droplet that fall by the after light of the street lamps. Its a really nice moment there. Wish i was out in the open field.

A friend had this msn message that caught me thinking

Its takes more then strength. It also take great accuracy to land a shot inbetween the eyes.
But again, the keyword here is strength as one would only need a certain(but still a great amount) amount of strength to fling and let that stone sunk inbetween the eye.
This basic strength i assume is attainable for that person. As they had to fend of invading wolf packs with the same tool.
I asked that friend and she said, its courage. For a moment, i thought its was correct. But then i knew the defination of courage, which was "mastery of fear". So i kept thinking.
My final conclusion of what its take is the knowledge of knowing who you are serving under, accepting the power of the person that you serve under and using the authority and might that comes with it. Because i don believe a normal physical person is able to fling a stone and sunk it inbetween the eyes. It take someone who can make 3 sick men footsteps and make it sounds like an entire army to do so. Thats how you can stand before a giant.

Alright, i went for the waiter thingy. Its at swiss hotel at city hall, the lvl 70 New Age Bar. Its just an interview. Damian said as if im gonna work right away. The guy said ill should be starting work next week but i haven heard any contact yet. Which i guess this whole week roster already book?

Spend like 8buck print passport sized photo for interview. The photoshop around my area just make a killing when i have so little funds left. Grr!

Actively looking for a job now. Wanna get so many thing and commitment thats eagerly waiting to take a draw at my wallet! I need a good job!

Was thinking back some stuff in my poly and im just dumbfolded at my action last time. Doing at thing to restore any form of justice would cause a very great collateral damage. Need great wisdom now.

Heard Dist does have advantage now, so my previous post was crap. Shall work double hard now and hopefully not lost steam halfway again.

Installed many new games and i din really have time to try them out yet. Im high on testing out new games now. Seem like EA does really help me expand my game interest. Im engaging different genre of games now. Not just my good old counter strike.

HA! planning for next next week outing for my friend at a lecturer house. Gaming party. How cool is that huh? Meeting the scgs girls that i mentored last year in a competition for some movie. Their 1 of the greatest bunch of mentee i would ever know.

Alright, there so many things going in my head now, Im exploding! Shall leave before i cause a big splatter of brain mesh all over the place.

Oh on a random note, the gormeh is mad lately, sent me a NS pink letter summoning me to register for NS or defer it only to have the website telling me i need to wait a few weeks later. Next came the national library fines, book that i "borrowed" in year 2000 and 2001? I don remember myself reading books then. Their mad. The letter cost more then the fee their asking!

Alright caught a movie recently, No Reservation. Its a story about a female chef. Its contain a side story ark of her lost at the beginning, coping with the lost and the added responsibility because of the lost. It mainly deal with love, family and alittle bit of office politic because of some misunderstanding. End of with a happy ending as usual.

Watch another show, not in the cinema, Facing the Giants. Totally awesome. Its very christian. Overall, great show, really blessed spiritually by it. Shall buy it DVD and have it stand on my dvd collection rack.

Went shopping too. Found out that Medal of Honor: Airborne special edition does contain a metalbook dvd casing for the game. Was wondering of buying this game as i already completed it thousands of time while having my attachment at EA. Very tempted because its a metalbook. Its 62bucks btw.

Gabriel was tempting me into purchasing ipod touch. OK. I admit i want it. However, im short on cash and my nano is still working perfectly fine! Its a great want but i can leave without it. Buying it will add a very deep dent on my pocket. I don have any freelance project or income now u know? so stop... (: im trying to keep a lookout for my pocket.

Summer season arriving. Been spending lots of time reading previews on games that are coming rightup. Assassin Creed, Crysis and stuff. I don have so much money for all of them!

Recieved my result for my final year project and attachment. Was surprise and disappointed the same time for my resulting grade. Well, any better wont give me any more GPA boost but i was hopping form DIST. However, considering the effort and my attitude that i put in, im considered very blessed by God. So, anyway Praise God first.

Gonna work as a waiter for the first time tomorrow, i don know but it feels degrading. Damien u own me 1 for dragging me. Hopefully my mindset will change regarding to service industry. I hate talking or interacting with stranger or people whom im not close with. Yar i know... Evil me.

Alright! Its offically the forth week of my holiday now, still got 4 more week before school reopen. But only only really enjoyed my holiday this week. Last week was full of wierd event and activity.

I bought 2 new game for myself. Spend like 130buck on them =\
Shall have a short review on them.
1. Bioshock - Rating: 9/10
Totally awesome game. Fresh new content, very original in game idea. I like the 60s design. Atmosphere was great thought out the game, and repeatation of levels are kept low. Graphic and audio were pwnage. Must buy! Its 1 of the game that will make into my "Game of the Year" candidate.

2. Command & Conquer 3 "Kane Edition" - Rating: 8/10
Din wanted to buy this game at all. BUT! I saw it on sales, its limited edition. Some store went to Q for this game and stock it. Just went to buy it mainly cause its limited edition, in metalbook casing(my new fetish, all casing MUST be metalbook) and its 1 of my childhood game series. Not to mention play online with my friend. Noticed the lack of S after the friend. *GRIN*

There are a few other games i wanna get too...

Alright now. Holiday just offically started today for me. Its suppose to be like 2 weeks ago but i stay on with EA to finish my project, along with some other titles that popup during my stay. Pretty much hope that i get good result for my attachment.

I need to find new source of income fast now. So many thing i wanna buy, so little money left. I spend like 70% of my attachment allowance just for survival purposes, food and needs.

I joined the 30h code-a-ton 2 days back. Did not win any price thou. Theres like 3 category and each one have a cash prize of TWO thousand dollars!!! But then, the amount of effort put in equal to the amount of result. I shall now also improve on my coding skills, im deprive of coding for 4mths now.

Really fun to teamup with good old friends from school again. We have a "Lite" version of our group that went to the code-a-ton. Pretty fun anyway.

Lesson learn? Don laught at other when their chocolate drip or your create a bigger mess yourself! (: *hide from gabe*

Omg went to did crane today. Im so crappy until i hit the wireless mike reciever.
Sian the eyes thats looking back is enought to kill. Must had caused a big stress for sound crews... sry peepz.

Grr got some shot that i picture in my mind, but just can reproduce it on the crane, either i never control the joystick properly or its jammed. Yar at certern angle sometime the servo just don respond.

On a good side, recieved a message asking for National day parade camera crew. I replyed ok and the other side reply ok. Don know wad it really mean but i guess it means ok? on? but who knows...

Alright guys! been like almost a month before i last updated and that TAMSIE keep saying shes seeing "blink of an eye". SO, i decided to update my blog again!

Oh well, attachment have started and im now attach to EA Games Singapore as a Game Tester! How COOL can life get? Nah playing un releases game is fun, testing them aint. I can say about my job scope and that now reminds me i forgotten to do my report =\

yup! thats the duration of my entire poly Final year project.

Its a vision bigger than myself. Tts something worth dying for. Living for myself is so meaningless. If wad i do, i just to earn a salary and survive and have a good life, make my life nice....so meaningless!
I want to do something... Bigger than myself, serve a vision that will impact millions! Its a privilege to be part of Pastor Kong's 24-hour team that is ready to move out anytime, anywhere in the world to serve God's purpose. Its the most amazing job anyone can have and to have the best senior pastor as ur boss.
Even if i'm not a church staff, i also want a job that's bigger than myself. If i dun work in church, I'll be an airforce pilot, an airline pilot or an SOF trooper. Protect the nation or serve alot of pple, do something impactful. Something worth living and dying for. Else no point...
I dun want a selfish life. I dun wan to love my life. I want to give my life away to serve many pple.
Jesus says He who loves his own life loses it and he who loses his life, gains it.
Do u know wad it means? if u love ur own life, u live for urself. End up when u die, u realise u get nothing, u just lived and died for nothing, but when u give ur life to serve pple, when u die, u gain a legacy.

Today was rather eventful. Woke up and i ROed. Been such a long time (:

was contemplating if i want to go expo for the may day celebration. So i dared God if there be a cab i will go. Right away, a friend nudge me msn to go cab down together. Interesting huh.
Same thing happen for my a&b. Short of cash and cause God want me to pledge that amount, i pray, right away 1 guy offered me a videography job that the same amount i asked for.

wonder why sometime some stuff i ask never get reply so fast while others, that are insanely quick.

okok... so i went for the may day celebration. I cant stay long cause i had ticket which my sister bought before hand for spiderman3. SO i just help out with tv side andbe meat shield for cam3.
I left about 5pm cause need to meet my sis.
Knew it will be a wrong move, cause i getting very good report of things going on in there. Look like a miss a special chapter in chc.

im suppose to be rushing my game build now, but i haven don any yet. Many thing going on in my mind now.

Starting to filter out people in my life again, added list of people not to be close to, those TPLJ type. Also people who act muture but are childish. People who act to be loud and fun when they aint. STOP being so fake. Alright, maybe when u start to be good at decerning, u somehow are able to know feel the person and if they are for or against you. People can try to fool other but im not that easily fool dude.
Your eyes betrayed you, for i see your soul through them.

Speaking of fakes, which are truely disgusting people, i feel maybe im 1 too?
Made some friends, feel they sux after getting to know them, and i still hang out with them... Almost exploded at some fakes in my lab today, curse and swear but was reminded not to, by a true friend thats always beside me.
Be meek, do not argue with fool, lest u be like them.

Spend the whole night hearing music and soaking in oil. Din do any coding yet. I sincerly hope that ill regain strength again. Things never went so low. Pray ill be able to finish my task by tmr noon.

Was reading Kenn blog, and he was discussing where would he be if he aint saved. I thought about myself, where would i be? wad would i be doing. My lifestyle, my believe and convection, what would they be? Would i still be the same? No. A Friend was asking me, i ponder about if his really a friend, was debating why would I even believe in a God which cannot be seen, felt, heard? I stumbled and said no, but deep down in my heart, im screaming YES.

I had seen God, i had felt his warm and power and i heard his call. Have u?

Afterward, another said science contridict God. I pondered on that question even longer then u knew the word God. I had engaged in countless Christian apologetics that i don even bother to answer. Till date, i have not seen any arguement thrown at the bible that cant be defended. I never seen any work more constant then the Holy Bible itself nor have I seen any writing fit into science so well that it never had it prediction gone wrong.

Emerge Conference 2007. Im totally not enthuselastic about it. I did sign up for trailer and short film challange together with 2 great friend. I got the vision of my trailer already but transfer it to film would be the hard part, in this case tapes or dvd but certainly not film. Had flash back of POS moment when 1 of my cgm whos in my cluster told me his joining. I really wanna relive those moment but i choose to believe that its time for me to move on to greater thing.

Interesting event today in school. Saw the Campus Cascade for Christ inviting people for their event and they blasting HillSongs. I "freakout" and walk away on sight. Whats wrong with them, i keep thinking they flacky but do i really know them? No.

Just finish a production shot for the Crystal Mirror. Cant post any picture here cause its Non Disclosure.

Been a tiring 3 day event, low pay? but i think i still managed to learn somethings from this entire production. More confident in doing forever LIVE shot (: tracking skill just increased my a bound but my hand ache the second day, which i think i mildly screwup.

I can do "the walk" pretty smoothly now, that uncle seth lingo. Coil cables at blazing speed makes 1 ego grows.

ok so events over im back to normal life event. It feel much better then coding. Less brain juice taxing.

Anyway heard alot of stuff about sch from my buddy. Sch just sux, hopes it get over soon. (:

Alright, todays Friday the 13th. Alot of crappy things happen that are totally unexpected for me. Im blessed so those stuff are ranging for neutral to good.
Normally my daily post would be kinda short but todays really special. So yar if its get too long to read, don say im bitchy =
I went late for sch again, cause i rather orhorh in my cosy bed then wake up wash up and prepare for school.

I reach school and everyones playing computer game instead of working. Hello~ its a friday, cut us some slack. I played Dota with jianwei, im still a n00b and thus gathered a group of hate club behind me =
After that i cant concentrate on working, my left and right are both WoWing -.-. Thus, i went to sleep rom 10+ all the way to 1.30 where the entire DET FYPer, non second lifer, went for lunch together. There seem to be gap growing between my buddy cause now their at second life but yar that just part of life cycle. Anyway, my budget super tight so just eat a 1.20 meal. LOL its some primary school noodle but was still quite fulling.

Went back to lab, i went to solve a single bug on my program. With that solve, im pretty much on track to finishing up on the AI for some classified program. Still got alot more to code but i just leave it there. Hopefully i can rush finish it.

Went to sleep again, today i sleep ALOT, as in really ALOT in sch. Woke up around 4pm cause Jeremy screening some show in the class. Went to watch together with everyone.

Left school early today. I din tell my superviser about it, now im feeling so guilty. Din have any better choice, was suppose to go back down to my secondary school to collect some prize that they are presenting to my buddy and i. Went half way there and heard rumors that cause our hair was kinda long, we cant get into the school. Upon hearing it, i just dropped the idea of collecting that prize, its their annual prize presentating ceremony. Cause its Benny Hinn weekend.

I metup with JiaHao to go together. Crappy trip. Talk alot of random stuff. Drop off at city hall to get our dinner, and went to try take bus 61 to SIS.
I noticed an IJ girl, :) , at the oppsite side of the road stoning there, which i saw later when the service was over. Jiahoa din noticed that at all, even when i told him the 2 event. LOL!

ok i tried to smuggle myself in by asking Big melvin to hand me a pass. Plan FAILED. But learned a few important lesson from this. Somehow i got a dajavu of inside Melvin head. HHAHA

Service was great but it was not pack, the first time he came there like 3K people rejected from entry. Anointing was there but not as strong as last time also, from what my memory serve me. But anyway great service.

Cause i din went for the Speach Day at my secondary school, my buddy and our ex teacher came all the way to SIS to drove me out. They are like so desprate to meetup. Very touch. haha and our teacher treat us all a very expensive supper. 10-20 dollar a head. He also send us home. Had hell lot of a good time together. Miss those times, haah.
It seem like everytime i go, the teacher always say that my batch is alway the must special of all. My primary school form teacher, my secondary teacherS and now even my poly lecturers. There a bond beyond that of a student-teacher bond, but more of a friend-friend type, where both party can talk crap and share problem together. HAHA

oh well... im not doing photo blogging anymore. Its getting super tiring to take photo everywhere i go, it as im in some china visiter or something.

lets do some catching up on my blog... The last update to now is disgusting. Anyway i am now a year3 student! My year 2 life ended 6week ago, and my year3 life start 6week ago too. Which mean, I HAVEN got any holiday yet! ROAR!

Ok yar, year3 tsk, doing my final year project now. Attached to make a game for Singapore Navy. Crappy i got little interest in that kind of game. But anyway, its a group project so have to work in groups, and sadly i hardly know the people in my group, so i have bad communication with them. So im kinda a solo person now.

Sch fo the past 6week... Crappy, im been sleeping in sch for like hours, hardly do any work in sch, im a night person. Always went home, lock myself in my cosy room and ill be coding madly. This i think, cause my teammate to sian me, cause it seem like im slacking badly?

1 more week before first product delievery, kinda sux but i feel my part in on track. haha

OK~! anyway i got 2 choice tmr, rush down to SIS after school for Benny Hinn thingy or rush to my sec sch to colect some award or something. Recieved a call thats like so last min. And sadly, Benny Hinn don need a camera crew, not even a grip! So i like got owned flat, was thinking of doing grip but then now im like free for the weekend. Should had join the choir team -.- lol~ cause the last time his here, im in it (:

ok im still pretty sian with my sch. Had a pretty chat with 1 of my lecturers. 1 would need a GPA of 3.5 and higher to get into uni, 3 and above to apply -.-
Im now like 3.275. Which just mean i need to get aleast a B+ now for all subject, else im GGed. But there a guy who got a GPA of 2.8 and managed to get into CMU master program -.- And they say entry is judge mainly by portfolio... Grrrr

So yar i recieve my mark for the first presentation for my FYP. I got 7/10 which is a B -.-

Sigh... School had finally started after 6 week of break...
The frist 2 day goes rather stressful.
I have 3 Project up and a assignment to do already.
Needa start own 2 self project for future project as well...

anyway a few days back i saw the cable people laying some cable and on closer look... they seem to be like optical line their laying...

Ok. I admit! I tired of blogging while im sick so i had a few days of blog strike!

Got to improve on the quality of English used here in this blog. So... yar.

I waited like 1 Hour to get all my pictures uploaded to photobucket and my connection was down for quite a while so that explain my slow update.

I shall start on Sunday!

Right. So as always, after the shift to Expo, my service was on Sunday.

Anyway, this was the view we got for last week service.

Oh yar. I forgot to mention! XiaoWei have this adorable pencil box!

As usual, we have lunch together after service. Something interesting, we're ban from our usual lunch place, so we went to the Food Court.

Whats the rightful thing after lunch? GO HOME! Ok wait. I noticed something interest here... Can you see it?

Yup. And i saw my ex cell group friend! CHERRY! Shes finally back!

Yup the train ride is boring. And my sister is busy taking picture of the bear that i pinned on my bag. And heres prove of it.

Alright. Thats all for Sunday. Anyway I went for a chalet yesterday(tuesday)! I Was invited by my OG.

Saw this homeless dude at the Bus Interchange. Loser huh?

I bought a cup of Ice Tea there as well. Cost me $2.50. OVERPRICED!

Kind of stupid. There aint any drink there at the chalet so I had to went to buy some drink. This the most cost effective way of providing drinks for them. Irony, they say its their treat!

But anyway i manage to get a FREE EGG from the uncle as he wanted to clear stock! haha

had my lunch and went back to lab to mug... Second shift started... Its Yee Howe and my turn now. Gabe and Rudy went for lunch! So Yee Howe was first to solve his problem! Took sooo sooo long. When he was done, Siang How who went to the optician was already back, gabe and rudy finish eating and i was sound alseep already. They woke me up cause IT MY TURN NOW! haha i was sleeping on my hand and my hand went NUMB when i awake! Grrr!

Woot... ok i managed to get a image acct at photobucket and then upload my pic from my hp, k800i, to my comp... so here my story of the day

hehe i took a test pic while i was traveling to sch at the lrt near my house... its super sharp for a hp... (: im loving it!

when i reach sch i went to cheer to buy myself a drink. I read somewhere that drinking and keeping 1 hydrated help to keep 1 awake... so i went to buy THIS!

but somehow after drinking i still feel sleep and i look so funny when i woke up

my team suppose to finish out beta stage by today but somehow wim been slacking too much... sigh... anyway this how our game look like!

i took this bell when i was waiting for my order... haha forget to on macro mode. but the photo appeared very sharp on the lcd =)

ANYWAY! this is my lab! or my studio im been talking about for the past 2 week! im stuck here for the studio project from 9am - 6pm everyday! Grrr.... Yar my phone can talk para shot =)

saw logan and his cg. There a quite close to my cg again. But this time round din wanna bother them, spirit lead. yar.

ok went to eat with my family after service. Some expensive chicken rice again... But its not chatterbox this time... haha but its was GOOD...

went home to sleep. And while i was sleeping my mom was doing facial on ME! enjoying life man. (:

after that i went down to westmall m1 shop to get the hp! yeh! but we Q like 2 whole hours?

ok today i got life.

i was woken up early in the morning 11am by my mother. She say my neighbour need help with science. I was like HUH? okok... went to washup and went over to her house.
Its been like YEARS already before i step in her house.

Ok shes sec2 and supposed to do self study on science-physic, electricity. Problem with intergrated schs like Nanyang Girls High is that they have no textbook! Shes doing some e-learning and i went to check out the stuff. Crappy note her lectures gave. Explain to her everything and then she manage to do her assignment.

HELLO~! i don get A1 in science for nothing. Not to mention i topped the subject in my sec sch (:

ok left her house at around 12.30pm. Went back home to bath, eat, dressup and went for cell group. Todays potblessing so i prepaired Root Beer float bananna split. NICE! but after 1 cup of mine, im pretty full already. Had quite a heavy lunch before i came for cg. Din really enjoy the food. Anyway i have totally no appetite.

ok wad happen is todays friendship connection cgm, and my cgl is away on mission trip, so 2, YES TWO, cgl came to my cg to lead. And they gave me a lift to expo. So i saved church money and my money. PTL if such thing happen everyweek, my problem is solve.

ok today ministry i did iris with Logan. But we we not up to expectation. So yar i think i need to improve on iris controlling skills now.

after ministry i went to eat with my cg people. I know them before i came to my new cg. Haha went to Airport for dinner. Wanted to have have Pops but the Q was madness so we had swed together. Cost me 20+

anyway im getting the phone, k800i, tomorrow if all goes well! (: yeh... so i can start to have a picture blog. More interesting stuff coming for all reader soon. Infact, i don think theres any reader at all... So ill just be entertaining myself...

ok tmr satday. my cgl going on mission trip! cool... wonder who will be the boss of the week...

anyway im quite sad now.
Grrr cell group time clashes with my ministry time.
Cg will end 30-60min before service start every week...
i cant pay for the cab every week myself too, neither can the church...
yar so sian.

anyway my studio project getting stuck... whole team slacking already when we haven really finish everything yet =\ and im only super productive at night... And somemore im the gameplay programmer... =\ which is like, i don work = no game play... haha so yar i better work... but im pms ing badly lately...

Im currently using a Sony Ericsson T630... Im aimming for the new K800i. 3.2Mega Pix of imaging power... Woot! Im a camera whore! haha
some fact... this the market trend T630->K750->K800i
so i be jump 1 generation to the 3gen of Sony Legend.
It gonna cost around 400 buck with a 2 year contract but then, my T630 cost around the same price when it was out... serve me a good 3-4 years... so Yar... K800i here i come... Hope he pay for me again... HAHahh im totally BROKE...

ok i read a report about water...
hmm water can help to reduce my weariness =\ mean i wont sleep so much in sch...
i think its true... im getting very tried lately. And my lip are getting dry.. my lap is very cold and dry too... think my body is low on water... hahah

ok today sch start at 8.30am... i wokeup at 8.30am... I nearly died of heart attack when i saw the time.
Rush down to sch and reach there at 10am.

Nothing much to blog about... I spend the entire day at sch. So boring... Had to do some studio work... grr i sleep for around 1h 30min in sch today... haha but was kinda productive... Finish all the work that i planned to do today.

Took the train home after sch and i sleep sleep sleep. Sigh this is monday and im having its blues.

ok today woke up VERY EARLY to go church :(
went dinner with my family and we go church together... Saw my new cg and somehow my cg is INFRONT of LOGAN cg... haha so cool... and that deborah talk very loud.

Not serving today, which is well finally i can hear AR B messages... haha Today was a homerun hit... but somehow i fall asleep at the starting of the sermon... think cause i sleep at 5am yesterday. But i was totally awake from mid sermon to the end...it was OWNAGE... gg99 owned X.X its such a simple truth but i feel my spirit exploded inside for me... real cool... anyway my sis bought for my AR B book! haha so NICE! and she ordered the DVD ahah... =D so i can hear the 2 sermons i missed... YEH!

ok after service i went to FCBC... haha had a look at their camera system... LOL spy but then yar it look somewad like ours but seriously i not pro enought to see 1 look know the model... yar i only say like 3 camera... din really check everything out.

had lunch with my cg at fcbc again... cool we took many photo and i do many photo stun... lol now they call me evil guy and badman... LOL cause yar i purposely take the uglyest moment of them... haha!!!

then 1 of my cg member is a dancer... lol she dance very funny... then i do chicken dance behind her... LOL then she do stun... then i do breakdance own her... LOL nice

after which i went to TM with them to shop... we went arcada together as well...haha played para para then wanz played TC2. PRO ownage...

after i saw James, jpg, and their cg... haha bump into them again... haha ok then me and sabie when off to east coast park for bbq... celebrate alice bday =D

ok this time bbq was quite ok lah for a first timer, alice planned her own bbq. I helped setting up the fire at the second pit. There was a mix of her friend and church people. Her cg settle the first pit and 1 and her friend setup the second pit.
